ID trackers

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/07/us/in-texas-schools-use-ids-to-track-students.html?_r=0

In this article published by the New York Times, Anson Jones Middle School in Texas has recently put tracking devices in the student's IDs. The author first establishes pathos by including details about an innocent student who decorates her ID with smiley faces. From there, the author quickly counteracts her innocence with the school's administrators' secret intentions of tracking the students' whereabouts. By directly contrasting the little girl and the administrators, one can easily see who the bad guy is in this situation. The article later explains that the need for these tracking devices helps school funding. However the technology used for the trackers were not meant for humans, and the author includes that the devices were supposed to be for shipping goods or cattle. The addition of this statement compares the children to objects or animals which induces shock and disapproval. Lastly, the author writes about opposition to the devices, but also includes the benefits of them. Most likely, the author was informing the public on the dangers to be aware but giving some good aspects to be a fair and trustworthy author.
