I read an
article called “Proudly Bearing Edlers’ Scars, Their Skin Says ‘Never Forget.’”
It was about a tradition that is beginning to be seen more and more throughout
the lives of those associated with the Holocaust. I read this article because I
have always had an interest in the Holocaust. The author of the article successfully portrayed the painful
effects this historical event had on society. For example, the author writes, “It is certainly an intensely personal decision that often provokes
ugly interactions with strangers offended by the reappropriation of perhaps the
most profound symbol of the Holocaust’s dehumanization of its victims.” The diction choice evokes strong
emotion, almost associating the reader with the survivors and victims. The author
was able to successfully describe the tradition of Holocaust tattoos and what
it means to the survivors. -Maclean Liotta
