VP debates can kill political careers
The article argues that although vice presidential debates may not have a substantial effect on Presidential elections, they do heavily affect the career of the potential vice president. Throughout the article, the author chronologically refers to VP debates in history in which a vice presidential candidate's performance later undermines later attempts for a successful political career. The article begins with a lighthearted tone as the author compares VP debates to "AAA baseball", basically saying they are obviously not the main attraction or even very important in the grand scheme of a presidential election. The editors note at the beginning of the article establishes the authors ethos, citing his qualifications and achievements. The author uses logos the most in order to prove his argument, citing several VP debates by using quotations and detailed analysis to prove that the debates have a long lasting effect on the image of a politician. The authors audience is anyone who cares about the election and the future of America, whether they are a Republican or Democrat. He proves this by remaining unbiased throughout the article and referring to the gaffes and embarrassments of politicians from both parties throughout history, and equally representing both current potential vice presidents.
