With Regular NFL Officials, a Return to Normalcy With a Few Hiccups

The New York Times published this article in hopes of directly playing into the feelings of disdain for the replacement referees in football fans across the country. The article first addresses the awful call made on Mark Sanchez last week, a call that sparked the new need for the regular referees. By using Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets quarterback, the New York Times uses logos to establish their ethos to the readers. The article does address that the normal referees made mistakes as well, not just the replacements. It then goes on to prove that the officials are vital to the outcomes of games, a point they hope will make the reader reconsider their attitude towards the referees. The final point of the article is to show that the referee strike is officially over, and although there will be more mistakes made during the season, the NFL is simply happy to have their official referees back.
