Kidal assault: French jets bomb northern Mali

As the chaos in Northern Africa continues, Mali is now seeking help from its previous colonizers, France. The article begins by stating that France is sending troops to Mali to combat the Islamists rebels. It also states that France has promised to help rebuild Mali's ruined heritage sites. The article really is trying to appeal to ethos and pathos. France being represented by ethos, making them look like heroes in the eyes of the Malian people. The Malian people are the targetd pathos, attempting to make France look to then as if thy are being saved. The ethos here seems clear, countries are attempting to help each other and fight these rebellious "Islamist militants". However, an underlying ethos is also noted, and that is still how dependent African countries are on European nations. Imperialism forever seeming to cripple many of these nations, and the way the African people have lost there way by allowing themselves to become so dependent. It makes one wonder what motivates the French to lend a hand as well, history has shown that most countries like to ignore the troubles of other countries especially in Africa unless there is some personal benefit. This was shown in the Rwanda genocide less than 20 years ago when 800,000 people died, because no countries gave aid.
